How to VASP calculate core level ?

Dear all,
As we know, ICORELEVEL = 1 can calculate the core level of atoms.
However,
I would like to know the more details about principles of core level calculation by VASP.

Principles of the core-level shifting are outlined in PRB 70(2004)165405.
