band structure in the different equivalent directions

#1 Post by Luniakov » Tue May 27, 2014 1:29 am

Dear all! Does anybody know whether band structure is always the same in the equivalent directions of the reciprocal lattice? In our case the symmetry of the atomic basis is lower then the symmetry of the 1-st IBZ and the band structure looks different in the different equivalent directions!

Yes, equivalent directions exhibit same lines. If you observe differences there must be some reason making the directions inequivalent.

Thank you for the reply! Is it possible that the low symmetry of the basis atoms makes the directions inequivalent?
