How to take macroscopic-averaged electrostatic potential?

I read from literature that

"the macroscopic averaging is obtained by convolving the planar-avergaed potential with a window function."

I am not sure how to write the window function. Anyone got an experience on that?

Thanks!

Hi, it's some kind of moving average. If you average, e.g. x and y direction and you want an average in z-direction, you should use z = average(x,y, z+/-delta z). I'd put delta as input parameter, so you can check what it is doing.
