Is it possible to apply an external electric field in a diagonal direction?

Dear All,

I noticed that it is possible to apply an external electric field in VASP using the EFIELD flag. Another question that occur to me is the following:

Is there any way to define the electric field direction with components of a*, b* and c*? In another words, a diagonal electric field through any unit-cell symmetry (i.e., cubic, orthorhombic, hexagonal, etc)?

Thanks,
S. S.

To my knowledge the answer is no. However, you can always rotate your cell so that the direction you want is parallel to the default direction of the applied field.

Cheers,
