EFIELD unit

#1 Post by zlch5 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:43 pm

Hi,

From some posts I learn VASP 4.6 support external electric field by entering EFIELD = xxx (eV/A).

I am not sure what this unit means. eV/A -- electron volt per angstrom? If so, it is the unit of force, not electric field.

I wonder what e,V and A stands for? Does anyone know this?

Thank you very much

yes, i not sure too. For example is i want to set the external electric field to 0.8 V/A
0.8 V/A = 5000000000000000000 eV/A ?

It means the strength of the electric field and this value equates the force acting on a unit charge.
1eV/A = 1V/A times 1e.
